About me
Hi! My name is Ulysse. I’m a 27-year-old French guy, and I always loved to travel. I caught the travel bug when I was 12 during my first family trip. Since then, I just couldn’t stop thinking about wandering around the world and…Blablabla…
Maybe this above text isn’t what you expected by clicking the “about me” button. You wanted to listen to another typical blogger’s story about how they fell in love with travel, quit everything to pursue their dreams and lived from their passion. Well, this isn’t exactly what you are about to read. I wanted to expose myself and my story as raw as possible, without any flakes or beautification.
The story below is about the difficulty of finding a purpose even in a pretty smooth life and the numerous walls we all face sooner or later. So, if you feel like you could handle a story which isn’t random and discover all the meaning behind SlowSight Soul, come aboard!
Bon voyage!

Nice to Meet you
“The real voyage begins when you get to know who you truly are.”
What do you pursue?
A dream is what makes us fight for life. It gives us the strength to get out of bed even when we have no desire to do so. The reality is that without a vision, it is hard to face real life on a daily basis. Sometimes, all we need is a click, an event, or someone we meet who opens our eyes and pushes us to reflect on what we truly want.
My click is based on the story below. Honestly, it is no more than a succession of events and reflection, but often, the simple story is the one we learn the most from.
Will you dare to explore it? May this website be the push you were waiting for? The only sure thing is that you are in the right place, at the right moment.
The art of listening to yourself
Is listening to ourselves as complex as it appears?
I believe many of us are confining our dreams within the boundaries of a lifestyle we only marginally appreciate. We find ourselves chasing an elusive ideal propagated by social media’s fake reality, pursuing a luxurious life or a perfect existence. Why should we run after something that has a sour taste?
In this pursuit, we might inadvertently have lost our sensitivity to enjoy little thing or the capacity to smile at life daily. Ironically, enjoying little things can be harder at the beginning. It demands a conscious effort to dismantle ingrained beliefs and listen to that inner voice shouting to go after what truly thrives us.

Make your story shine
What makes us shine for ourselves and those around us? What is worth our most valuable asset: time?
Sometimes, the path to enjoy simple things can be an arduous and time-consuming process. I consciously decided to pour my heart and soul into a vision that resonated with me. To choose a different path that does not guarantee a stable economic situation, a job offer or a predictable future. I’ve put my dreams and ambitions into this website and here’s the story.
This is the story of Ulysse, a French soul raised in the French Alps landscapes, steadfastly pursuing his dream.

A comfortable life
Honestly, I always had a pretty comfortable situation whether in relationships, school, or finances. I never had to complain or suffer from hunger, cold, or whatever. However, since my twenties, I have wondered about my way.
What do I pursue? What do I want to accomplish?
Life seemed good playing basketball in clubs with my friends, going to parties, meeting a bunch of new people, going on holidays with family or travelling alone. But something was missing. I didn’t have a real purpose.
Hit the walls, an opportunity to discover the world
The first & second walls
In the pursuit of my studies, I tried to convince myself that I could fill a void. Initially, I set my sights on a career in sports, specialising in physical activities for individuals with disabilities. However, I crashed into the first wall when I realised the market was saturated, with few job opportunities available in my field of expertise.
Undeterred, I shifted my focus to marketing and had the opportunity to work for Red Bull. This newfound passion led me to extend my time at the sports university, aiming for another diploma specialising in sports events. It seemed like a promising path, and I envisioned obtaining a master’s degree to secure a stable financial situation for a decent living.
Unfortunately, I encountered the second wall when, after applying to several master’s programs in France, all I received were rejection letters. The doors to my hopes for a study plan in the upcoming year were suddenly closed.

A blossoming opportunity
As I was wondering how to make the most of this free year, a friend, ready to embark on an au pair adventure in Ireland, organised a farewell dinner with our friend group. My curiosity was triggered. I couldn’t resist asking her about the process that led her to this exciting opportunity. As she was explaining it to me, it became clear. An exciting new opportunity has just come to light, and I had to give it a shot.
After a flurry of applications sent far and wide, the sole response I received came from a Mexican family in the vibrant city of Guadalajara, Mexico.

What makes me happy?
Grow plants until my place get invaded
Anything related to water
Any food I can cook and eat
When it's time to explore
Lose myself into book
Whenever a new one piece chapter gets released
Sunrises & Sunset
The Mexican chapter
The start of a journey
Enthusiastic, I embarked on a question-and-answer journey with the only English-speaking family member, the aunt, aiming to ensure compatibility between my profile and theirs.
Three weeks later, my plane ticket was bought, and the contract was signed. Off to Mexico for six months, with no Spanish skills or limited understanding of Hispanic culture.
My task? Take care of two little girls, aged 7 and 11. However, little did I know how changing this whole experience would be.
A though experience
First of all, shoutout to the aunt. She was, without any doubt, the person helping me to stay mentally healthy during my time there.
Without her, I would have undoubtedly quit the job before. She was my invaluable mental and emotional support.
To set a frame for the third wall, the family needed my assistance after the girls’ mother abandoned them, leaving emotional scars on the family unit, now composed of the grandmother, the dad, the two girls, and the aunt.

Establishing a trust and healthy relationship with the girls was a daily and exhausting battle. Mainly due to my initial inability to speak Spanish, their unfamiliarity with outside family members caring for them, and the emotional wounds they carried.
Along the way, it pushed me into emotional lows that I hadn’t anticipated. It led me to unconsciously develop protective layers in my personality, to avoid burnout. A realisation that only came to my mind three years later.
The family wasn’t ready, and neither was I.

Creating ground to learn & discover
Yet, despite the difficulties, there were moments of profound and genuine joy.
Each day, I discovered a new world around me. From tasting the diverse flavours of local Mexican cuisine to navigating a new language and immersing myself in a culture I had never explored, I was happy.
It was a lesson in the vastness and richness of the experiences the world has to offer.

A tragic shift
Unexpectedly, a tragic fourth wall appeared without any signals. My father died while I was in Mexico, urging me to come back to France to be with my relatives. Devastated, in mourning, it left a scar inside of me that is still healing nowadays. I, for now, don’t feel comfortable enough to open up more about this part, and I call for your understanding.
Finding a purpose
A desire to learn more
After taking a year off, I decided to return to academia and embark on a new master’s degree called MERCURI. Centered around a marketing framework, this unique program took my classmates and me across four distinct countries. Each semester brought us to a new destination—from Poland and France to Germany and finally Spain.
Throughout this adventure, I met wonderful people within my promotion or in the country we’ve been to. But, boom, the fifth wall.

Hitting another wall
During this time, I began embracing a more sustainable lifestyle, avoiding air travel, opting for local and seasonal foods, and transitioning to a vegetarian diet. As these convictions solidified, I started questioning myself about the compatibility of these values with a future in marketing.
Most classes we had focused on productivity without even touching upon the consequences on our world and society. With the culmination of my degree approaching, I began seeking ways to apply my marketing knowledge to do my bit for a better future.
After much reflection, I realised that ideas are the most powerful tools to impulse a change, that I could leverage these ideas while aligning my lifestyle with my inner convictions.
I saw the the opportunity to share transformative mindsets and present a different perspective on the world, a chance to be part of change through the transmission of impactful ideas.

The beginning of the process
The first step
Happily graduated, one of my best friends and I chose to follow the entrepreneurial journey. We found a cosy place in his father’s former workshop, formerly used to create wood furniture, and started to work.
With unwavering determination, we dive into our respective projects, each corner of the space fostering creativity and fueling our motivation. As we immersed ourselves in the grind, the true purpose I was looking for gradually unfolded. I currently have no idea if I believe in a pipe dream or if it will be something I can live from. The path ahead is unclear, and doubts arise sometimes, but there’s an undeniable excitation to this adventure.

I believe
I am waiting for the next wall, ready to climb it driven by convictions and purpose. I don’t know if I could inspire some of us to adopt a different travel style and life vision. Yet, without being sure about anything I want to believe in this vision with all my soul and heart.
Once upon a time, in a distant land, a vast forest fire raged, striking terror into the hearts of all its inhabitants. Animals scattered in panic, their cries resonating as they helplessly witnessed the tragic catastrophe.
In the middle of the chaos, a brave hummingbird darted between flames and terrified animals, tirelessly fetching water from a small pond to fight his home destruction.
A grumpy armadillo, annoyed by what seemed a futile effort, exclaimed, “You won’t save us with those minuscule drops!”.
Unperturbed, the hummingbird calmly replied, “Could be, but I’m going to do my bit.”
Wander with purpose – Connect with heart.
